So let me step into my delorean and go back about 8 years to when I was choosing my first therapist. The virgin therapist we were seeking was a speech therapist. She had studied in the UK or Australia and came recommended from another therapist. Which all sounded fine at the time. Back then I couldn’t tell you the difference between a good therapist or a bad therapist. They all smiled and looked happy and trustworthy enough. But is there such a thing as a good or bad speech therapist? Probably, but I never went exploring that far, I just accepted them if I saw they could build up a good rapport with my kid which most of the therapists did.
So back to choosing my first speech therapist – First i’m asked to do an assessment which is double the price of the standard therapy session. I will receive a report on my child and with this there will be a plan to cure him or her. Not that it says that in the report, but isn’t that what one assumes when you are paying for something? That you get results?
But what if your kid has dyspraxia, apraxia, global developmental delay, a physical impairment in her throat? Whatever the problem is maybe its more complicated than just hiring a speech therapist and hitting a home run.
Here I am 8 years later curing my own child, still working on her speech, fine motor skills. gross motor skills, toilet training etc etc and i’m feeling kind of stitched up. I went from therapist to therapist with no success, I even hired 2 speech and language therapists from the UK to give her full time speech therapy each day. Nothing worked, until recently when I embarked on some mineral solutions, cleared out her parasites and embarked on GcMaf. Now she is able to produce some sounds upon request.  Et Voila! As if by magic she is suddenly trying to talk.
Some would argue it was the years of therapy that finally kicked in. Yep and those people would be on my list of “looney bin” candidates. I would argue – I’ve done more programs than you can imagine, spent fortunes on trying to find the best programs or treatment to improve her condition. Some of which did improve her situation, its clear to me that the brain takes its own sweet time in repairing itself but there are some things that can speed up that process. Its like getting all your ducks in line at once and if they are all lined up correctly you just get a better result. It could be slight changes in diet, physical programs, attitude, positive attention or even family matters that could be the reason for a slightly different result. It could even be a certain supplement that together with something else that just clicks everything into place.
For 10 years she couldn’t produce a single sound upon request so as you can imagine to suddenly start producing sounds this is a pretty big deal for us right now.
So we are on the road again looking for a speech therapist. My first question is – Why does my child need an assessment if I’m spending the whole day with him/her, is my input not good enough?
Why are parents deemed to be unqualified when they have spent more time with the patient than anyone. I hear you saying – Parents are biased. WRONG ANSWER..
The people who made up parents are biased are the ones who invented the system in the first place for monetary gain. Im not going to go any further than that on this subject. I will save it for another day of pixels and whacky comments.
